OPEN WORKSHOPS are FREE of charge! Each class will be task-specific, and you now have a four-hour window (11:00 am - 3:00 pm) in which you can receive instruction. We want to make this as easy as possible for you to keep your own bonsai healthy! Open Classes also give you the freedom to receive instruction without the restriction of a rigid start time, or if you only have a limited time to spend at Garland you are still welcome to come and learn. These free classes include instruction and guidance only; you will need to provide or purchase your own supplies such as plants, pots, soil, wire, and tools. Or, you can just observe if you want to.

On June 15 th Anne will have a free open workshop from 11 to 3 working with dwarf gingko.

Bring in your deciduous bonsai on August 3rd. Anne will be there to help you with them from 11-3.

Anne Spencer  has been growing bonsai, as a hobby, for over 35 years.  For the past 20 years she has shared her skills and passion for this ancient art with the public, giving lectures and classes all over the Northwest.  She is an active member (since 1978), and past Board member, of the Bonsai Society of Portland, OR, and has written many articles for their newsletter, as well as having had articles published in an international bonsai magazine.  She has a background in Special Education, and has recently retired to enjoy her grandchildren, traveling, improving her bonsai collection, and do more bonsai teaching.

Although Anne enjoys working on conifers and
evergreens, her specialty is deciduous bonsai. She
uses her extensive personal collection of medium
and small sized bonsai as examples when teaching
her beginning bonsai basic classes at Wee Tree at Garland Nursery.
