Steve Wilcox return to schedule

OPEN WORKSHOPS are FREE of charge! Each class will be task-specific, and you now have a four-hour window (11:00 am - 3:00 pm) in which you can receive instruction. We want to make this as easy as possible for you to keep your own bonsai healthy! Open Classes also give you the freedom to receive instruction without the restriction of a rigid start time, or if you only have a limited time to spend at Garland you are still welcome to come and learn. These free classes include instruction and guidance only; you will need to provide or purchase your own supplies such as plants, pots, soil, wire, and tools. Or, you can just observe if you want to.

On June 21st Steve will be happy to help you with any bonsai project or questions between the hours of 11 am and 3 pm. Bring your bonsai in or just stop by and talk bonsai with Steve.

In February 2000 while at the Portland Home and Garden Show I came across a vendor who had a grove of Japanese Larch Trees on display. I was mesmerized by that grove and something inside me just clicked and my Bonsai Journey began. I read many books, magazines and articles from the internet. Started haunting nurseries of all kinds and discovered that I was having a hard time getting the information from the books to my trees. In my search for information I came across WeeTree Farm and saw that they offered Bonsai Classes. I signed up for the beginner series where I met my Mentor Anne Spencer. Anne encouraged me to join the Bonsai Society of Portland and to continue taking classes and as many workshops as possible.
In 2006 I was the Chairman of the Mentorship Program for the Bonsai Society of Portland. Last year I also started a small business called Apex Bonsai Supply.
Currently I am taking a series of workshops with Dave DeGroot the curator of the Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection. I belong to three Bonsai Clubs, Sunset Bonsai Club, Willamette Valley Bonsai Society and the Bonsai Society of Portland of which I am now the 1st Vice President. The best part of club membership is the number of really great friends you develop that all share a common interest.
Bonsai has truly changed my life and I hope to share what I have learned and experienced with other people in and coming into the hobby.
